Oasis in Montmarte

Accommodation standards during this holiday have been somewhat erratic. The variations are for two main reasons - budget and the equivalent of 'glamour' Photography on accommodation websites (anyone who has been househunting knows exactly what I mean!).

Our apartment near Disneyland was hot, miniscule and smelly. The suburb itself was like the set of the Truman Show movie - very weird! We were very happy to be heading for our Paris apartment but I was nervous about what we would actually find when we arrived. I needn't have bothered. Paris Oasis was exactly what it claimed to be - and more.

Our apartment is called the Lucie Loft - named after Helene and Jean-Louis' (owners) daughter. Lucie herself was here to greet to us on arrival - she spoke fluent English and was so warm and friendly, we felt instantly at home. This amazing place is only a 2 minute walk to Sacre-Coeur and is located in the heart of Montmarte. Paris Oasis is actually the family home of Helene and Jean-Louis. They have converted the existing bedrooms of their art-filled home into gorgeous self-contained apartments and there is even an indoor heated swimming pool!

If you look closely, underneath the glass roof is Tor and Henry swimming in the pool! After not doing it in Rome and wishing we did, I persuaded the family to do an open top bus tour of Paris. It sounds and looks so cheesy but turned out to be a brilliant way to see loads of major sights with the kids with very little effort or stress.

And just look at these great pics of downtown Paris...

We disembarked at the Eiffel Tower (along with 5 million other tourists), ate paninis and crepes on the grass in front of the tower before taking loads more photos - it was just such a beautiful day!

And finally, one of Earl's black and white pics of the kids under the bridge - noice!

  1. OMG - didn't realise you were staying at Sacre Coeur! Ancient history, but pre-wife and many girl friends ago I took a young woman for a weekend in Paris and we ate at possibly the best restaurant I have (cetainly had at the time) been to - and it is on your doorstep! Check out www.lemoulindelagalette.fr/index-en.html And loved the previous post! So with you on this one! Did you check out Thunder Mountain? And how did you survive Temple of Doom? Full on or what!
