Food, France & family

The kitchen in this house is amazing. Working coal-fired Aga stove (plus gas/electric stove for the less adventurous), every possible cooking utensil known to man, huge timber kitchen table just made for preparing and eating food upon, cupboards and cupboards filled with saucepans, mixing bowls, baking trays - the list goes on.

And then, if the the kitchen equipment isn't enough, the owners of the house leave a fully stocked larder/pantry packed with every basic ingredient you might need (or run out of!) while cooking - pasta, rice, herbs, canned foods, home made chutney and pickles etc. They just ask that you replace used items when you leave. Oh, and did I mention loads of great cookbooks.....?

We're heading to a market tomorrow (hopefully) for fresh fruit, veg and meat as we've been housebound due to Henry being sick the last couple of days. He seems to be perking up this afternoon so market tomorrow looks promising. Meanwhile, here's a peek at our beautiful dinner Hen and Earl whipped up last night - yum!

Played some badminton in the sun on the idyllic grassy front lawn today, read a book and the kids got creative with plasticine - we think tori has the hallmarks of a future 'miniaturist'....what do you think?

No prizes for guessing who is responsible for artwork below...

And in case you need to see ANOTHER pic of this house - here's one taken through the apple tree about 10m from the front door. Sigh...surely it can't be that hard to learn French....
